It's Thursday, April 27 2023. It's time to nerd out.

The ad nerds podcast delivers ad industry news every weekday. We are the go to source for people who spend money on advertising, covering Big brands, small businesses, and of course, the latest marketing trends. It's me Spanky Moskowitz, the show's host, and a nearly 40 year bet of the ad industry. I've created campaigns for Budweiser m&ms, Frito. Lay the NFL and NBA, I've created over 100,000 ads generating hundreds of billions in client revenue. If you're in or interested in the world of advertising and want to stay up to date with the latest news. The ad nerds podcast is the perfect place to start.

Well, while Britain will be crowning a new king soon, the ad industry is being dethroned right now by a shaky economy. Britain's advertising industry is going through a slowdown of sorts. Because of the money problems in a shaky economy. Experts think that growth and advertising spending will be pretty small this year in Britain, it's only supposed to go up by 0.5% Compared to last year. Now, lots of industry people were hoping for a 3.8% increase. But things changed when there was a drop of 5.8% in the last part of 2022. Now even though digital advertising like online ads is still doing well. Overall growth in the industry is starting to crawl. Some experts think that digital advertising will continue to grow. So for example, people are spending money on things like podcasts, and ads for connected devices like smartphones and tablets. So there's still some hope for the future of 2023 or what remains of 2023. But right now, people in the advertising world need to come up with a strong plan to help the industry grow. A recent survey found that lots of marketing leaders are preparing for possible problems like economic or political issues. Now, I'm gonna give you my two cents on this because I've been in the industry a really long time. Agencies, you guys got to do a better job at creatively marketing. I am seeing a ton of boring garbage coming out of the industry the last few years, with a few shining gems here and there. being plugged into the industry. I see everything. And I can tell you for a fact that independent agencies are going to kick the crap out of the big guys if they don't get their stuff together soon.

Remember when you wore diapers? Well of course not. You don't I mean, unless you're currently wearing them in you are aware of it. Well, Huggies diapers just made a super fun ad that celebrates baby bottoms. That's right, the ad has a catchy song that's all about how Huggies diapers fit all babies. No matter the shape or the size of their cute little butts.

The ad will be on TV online and on social media. They're also going to have more ads on the radio in magazines and some celebrities talking about it as well. I'm thinking they're gonna be endorsements. Parents who work at Huggies know how important comfortable diapers are for babies and they had tons of fun making the ad. They hope that parents and babies will enjoy the song and the ad too. By the way, you can listen to the entire song on Spotify and Pandora.

Coming up LinkedIn rolls out something way more valuable than paid blue checkmarks and I'll tell you about it next time.

LinkedIn the social network for professionals is adding a new custom call to action button feature to its premium business subscribers. The company believes that LinkedIn profiles are crucial for connecting with new business opportunities. And I can tell you they are because I use it all the time. And so the new buttons aim to provide a personalized experience to enhance engagement with visitors to a profile. So the six new T CTA is available to Premium Members include, visit my store, visit my website, view my portfolio, view my blog, request a consultation and sign up for a demo. The new CTAs are being rolled out over the coming weeks and offer premium users the opportunity to further enhance their LinkedIn profiles and expand their network access. Now LinkedIn premium business membership comes at a price of 59 bucks a month. And premium users get unlimited profile searches in depth analytics, and other really deep features of the platform. So if you're a premium user who spends a lot of time on the platform, it's worth giving the new CTAs a try for a month, which is free. The new CTAs could help you generate more business opportunities and of course, increasing engagement with potential customers. By the way, I used LinkedIn premium a really long time ago and I wasn't super impressed. But again, it was a really long time ago like years ago. And these new features and other recent changes make the feature valuable so I'm going to try it out and look you can try it for a month it's free and if you don't like it, you know don't use it anymore. But if you like it what's 59 bucks a month for a business right?

New Orleans chicken restaurant Popeyes which by the way, I first tried last year when I was 55 years old. Yes, I know. It took me that long to try pa i don't know why I'm just like fried chicken is not a thing for me. Anyway, they hired creative agency McKinney to help market the brand with a new campaign titled, we don't make sense we make chicken. The first add on the campaign features iconic New Orleans scenery, cultures and will air on digital channels next month, followed by out of home and TV promotions in June. The campaign emphasizes the unique qualities of Popeye slow marinated and hand breaded chicken with Cajun spices and fresh ingredients that make it different from other fast food chains.

I love the brands new tagline: we don't make sense. We make chicken which allows for a lot of flexibility and creativity in their future marketing. The brand is experimenting with an interactive commercial on its website that challenges viewers to find the hidden image of its chicken icon Poppy. So it's kind of like Where's Waldo except for Poppy.

Anyway the videos have millions of views and are helping dollar stores reach younger customers, Dollar Tree Family Dollar and Dollar General join Tik Tok to share their own fun content. And this is a hugely smart move because they don't like to spend money on advertising. Tik Tok is helping them connect with young people in a creative and low cost way. By the way, sales at dollar stores are on the rise because people want to save money. Now for you small business owners that continue to disrespect tick tock and Gen Z.
